Pittsburgh Steelers has just landed another top class coach

A few days after the Cleveland Browns signed Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator, the Pittsburgh Steelers hired a new offensive coordinator. Arthur Smith was ousted after a couple of seasons as the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach and is now on his way to Pittsburgh to replace Matt Canada, who was fired earlier this season.

Smith had a successful career running the offense for the Tennessee Titans, earning him a head coaching position in Atlanta until flaming out this season. This move most likely represents the Steelers’ desire to return to their roots as a run-first, smash-mouth football team.

Smith was most effective with the Titans when he ran the offense through Derrick Henry and relied on the play-action passing game to complement the run game. It’s not a horrible hire given the personnel the Steelers already have in place as they try to build on a playoff appearance in 2023.
