What’s the worst Titans game you’ve ever seen?
Do I really need to say it?

On this dismal, isolated offseason with no news to report, we’ve shared some memories of some of the best times in Titans history, but now it’s time to go over the absolute worst.

So, if you have a unique answer, please share it in the comments area below. Otherwise, I believe we all know the same answer.

2009, Week 6 in New England.

The 59-0 blowout loss is awful enough, but the way it happened makes it legendary in Tennessee sports history. This was during the dark ages when Kerry Collins was the starting quarterback, and it just so happened that it was his final start of the season. The Titans were 0-5 and needed a win to get back on track, but nothing like that happened; only bloodshed.

The 49ers’ quest for another last-second miracle merits a thorough rewind.

Collins completed two passes on 12 attempts for -7 yards (I’m not kidding) and threw an interception. Surprisingly, he did not have a 0.0 passer rating, instead achieving a 4.9 rate by some miracle. Collins was eventually replaced by Vince Young, who not only failed to complete two passes but also threw an interception.

Interestingly, this was a game in which Chris Johnson carried for 128 yards. Yes, despite not scoring a single point, the Titans rushed for 100 yards in a 59-0 loss. None of the Titans’ quarterbacks were sacked once, while Tom Brady—who threw six touchdowns that day—was sacked twice, both times by Jason Jones.

The Titans committed five turnovers and had only 186 yards of offense, compared to New England’s 619. The Patriots scored 35 points alone in the second quarter, thus the game was already over by then.

I’m still shocked that the Titans only had -7 passing yards, and this is without any sacks, so it’s also the net yardage total! If this isn’t the largest blowout in NFL history, it’s among the top five. Despite this terrible defeat, the Titans went on to win eight of their next ten games, thanks in large part to a move to Vince Young for the rest of the season. While they missed the playoffs at 8-8, Jeff Fisher was pleased. Aside from Chris Johnson running the distance and joining the 2,000 yard club, one of the recollections of Tennessee’s 2009 is a horrible migraine with this headache, which no treatment can cure.
