Wolves has submitted a shocking bid for 20-year-old who is one of Europe’s most promising prospects.

The transfer window may have closed a month ago, but Wolves are already looking ahead to the summer and have made an offer for one of Europe’s most promising prospects.

Wolves are having a fantastic season under Gary O’Neil.

After booking their spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night while fighting for Europe in the Premier League, Molineux is still buzzing with excitement.

The Wanderers have been one of the most impressive teams to see in the top division this season, with their pace and power causing havoc on opponents in transition.

Such offensive success has been fueled by the brilliance of Pedro Neto, who has nine assists this season and has sparked a flurry of interest in the process.

Neto was signed as a 19-year-old from Serie A side Napoli in 2019, and the club is now looking for their next Portuguese jewel, Braga’s Rodrigo Gomes.

Wanderers have a recent history of acquiring some of Portugal’s greatest young players, having seen Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota excel at Molineux.
It is therefore not surprising to see Wolves dig back into that market by submitting a bid for promising winger Rodrigo Gomes of Braga.

According to O Jogo, O’Neil’s team has submitted an offer of €15 million (£12.8 million) in an attempt to entice him to England, but that has not persuaded Braga president Antonio Salvador to talk because the 20-year-old is worth much more.

Gomes apparently has a contract that runs in June 2026 and a release clause of €45 million (£38 million), making the aforementioned bid appear insignificant.

The Portuguese under-21 international is presently on loan with Liga Portugal side Estoril, where he has four goals and six assists in 20 appearances.

One of Europe’s most exciting talents

Portugal has been a talent factory for decades, and the current generation includes some interesting players like Antonio Silva, Joao Neves, and Tiago Tomas.

After a spectacular breakout season at Estoril, Gomes has put his name to the list, with the 2003-born winger demonstrating his talent as the next rising star.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has hailed the Braga teenager as one of Portugal’s most exciting possibilities, and he is well on his way to becoming a top player.

Gomes, a speedy and direct winger like Neto who has also played as a wing-back on multiple occasions, has outperformed his positional contemporaries in terms of offensive metrics.

According to FBref, he ranks in the top 4% in Liga Portugal’s progressive carries, the top 3% for assists, and the top 8% for non-penalty goals per 90 minutes.

Those statistics show how great he is in offensive situations, and while the £38 million price tag may put Wolves off, he would be a wise long-term investment.
