Atlanta Falcons are closing in on completing a deal worth $100 Million

The Atlanta Falcons may have to pay up if they want Kirk Cousins to join the organization.

The Atlanta Falcons are preparing for free agency next week, and Kirk Cousins is certainly on their radar.

Cousins, 36, is one of the best free agents on the market, but how much will he be worth to other teams?

“No need to overthink this one, as Cousins is going to cash in once again, despite being just 4½ months removed from a torn right Achilles,” the report states. “He was playing excellent football at the time of his injury and is the best free agency quarterback available in a thin market and a league full of teams looking for an upgrade. If you told me Cousins will sign a two-year, $100 million fully guaranteed contract, I would not be surprised.

Cousins is coming off a three-year, $90 million contract, and there’s a high chance this could be his final big deal in the NFL, so he wants every dime. But is he worth $100 million for the next two seasons?

There are arguments for and against signing Cousins, but doing so would use nearly all of their cap room. The Falcons still have needs other than quarterback, which may force them to acquire lower talent at other positions in order to sign Cousins.

But quarterback is the Falcons’ most pressing need, and they sorely need an upgrade, so if Cousins works out, it will be worth every penny of the $100 million they may potentially pay.

NFL free agency officially opens on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
