The Patriots has reportedly checked in on club cut candidate

The Patriots are looking to add top-tier talent to their roster, and the Chargers could be the source of that talent.

Los Angeles made dramatic changes this offseason, firing general manager Tom Telesco and head coach Jim Harbaugh. Since the Chargers are $25 million over the cap, new general manager Joe Hortiz and head coach Jim Harbaugh are likely to make more changes.

Austin Ekeler has agreed to join with the Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles can free up cap space by cutting or moving wide outs Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, as well as edge defenders Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack.

The Patriots “checked in” on these cut or trade prospects this week, according to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. New England has clear needs for a wide receiver or edge defender and may complete a trade if required.

DeVante Parker and JuJu Smith-Schuster are poised to leave the Patriots. Kendrick Bourne has decided to re-sign, but the wide receiver room is extremely thin following him. Calvin Ridley is a potential target, and Williams or Allen would make an excellent duo or pivot to him.

Josh Uche and Anfernee Jennings will be free agents, but Bosa or Mack would fit perfectly with Jerod Mayo’s rumored desire to add at least one “elite defender” this offseason.

New England has plenty of resources to complete a deal, but it will be determined by the competition for Chargers players and their asking price.
