Jurgen Klopp urges Liverpool to sign Wolves star player

Jurgen Klopp reportedly encouraged Liverpool to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Ait-Nouri in the summer.

Earlier this year, Klopp stated that he would be leaving Anfield after a trophy-laden spell on Merseyside.

The move occurred at a time when Liverpool has yet to formally announce who will be their next sporting director, with reports hinting that Michael Edwards will return.

Whoever takes on that job will face a variety of challenges, whether they are existing players or those on the club’s shortlist.

Most significantly, Liverpool must strive to effectively negotiate new contracts with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, whose contracts are set to expire in 2025.

However, with at least one new central defender needed and the next stages of development for many of the club’s talents on the horizon, Liverpool faces a busy year behind the scenes.

Although Klopp will leave Liverpool after the 2023-24 season, it looks that he may still have a say in who the club signs.

According to TEAMtalk, Klopp believes Liverpool should make a concerted push to capture Ait-Nouri from Wolves.

Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are the primary left-back options right now, with Joe Gomez impressing when called upon to fill in.

Furthermore, Liverpool has Owen Beck, who might push for a slot in the future, but Klopp has reportedly taken note of Ait-Nouri’s outstanding season at Molineux.

While the 22-year-old has only one goal and one assist at left wing-back, he has shown to be an important part of Gary O’Neil’s daring 3-4-3 formation.

The Algeria international is under contract until the end of 2025-26, but his value is unclear, with former club Angers reportedly possessing a 50% sell-on clause.

Manchester United are also thought to be keeping an eye on the situation, as Ait-Nouri is said to be open to moving to a high-profile club despite being content at Wolves.
