Social media reacts to Trev Alberts leaving Nebraska

Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts made a shocking announcement on Wednesday afternoon. The man in charge of Husker athletics announced that he would be leaving Lincoln to take the same position at Texas A&M.

Alberts came to Nebraska in 2021 after a 12-year tenure at the University of Nebraska Omaha. To make the hiring official, Texas A&M will pay Nebraska a $4 million buyout.

University of Nebraska Interim Presiden Chris Kabourek issued a statement expressing his disappointment in Alberts leaving for Texas A&M.

I’m disappointed to see Trev leave, but I am grateful for his 15 years of service to the University of Nebraska. Both the Mavericks and the Huskers achieved great things under Trev’s leadership and we wish him and his family all the best.

The interim President also said that he is focused on moving quickly to find a new Athletic Director.

In the meantime, my immediate focus is on doing everything I can to support our student-athletes, coaches and staff. I intend to name an interim AD very soon and will quickly begin the process for a national search for our next leader.
