WKU basketball player arrested

A Western Kentucky University basketball player was arrested early Thursday morning after Bowling Green police were called to the Hilltop Club Apartments on a large crowd gathered in the parking lot.

Joshua Mikael Anderson, 20,  a sophomore guard, was charged with second-degree disorderly conduct at 12:24 a.m. He is scheduled to be the starting point guard when WKU opens its season later this month.

“We are aware of the situation and handling it internally at this time,” WKU men’s basketball spokesman Zach Greenwell said of Anderson’s arrest.

When police arrived at the Hilltop Club, they encountered a large group of people in the parking lot in front of building 300 including Anderson who was singing and dancing, according to his arrest citation. Everyone was asked to disperse and most started to leave except Anderson, Police asked Anderson a second time to stop dancing and to get in the waiting vehicle.

A police officer said Anderson cursed and yelled at him, according to Anderson’s citation. He was arrested and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. He was released without bond at 11:46 a.m.

Anderson was arraigned Monday.

Another basketball player, guard Taveion Hollingsworth, 19, was cited Monday night on a marijuana possession charge after WKU police were called to a drug complaint at 1355 Kentucky Street.

When police got to the home, they smelled marijuana coming from room 233 and were given consent to enter the room, according to Hollingsworth’s citation. When police asked if marijuana was in the apartment, Hollingsworth went into his room and brought out a package of suspected marijuana, according to his citation.
