JUST NOW: Louisville Basketball are bring him back…

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In recent days, on top of recruiting transfers for the 2024-25 team, new Louisville men’s basketball head coach Pat Kelsey and his staff have started to identify some early targets in the Class of 2025. Their most recent target so happens to be the best prospect in the state.

Georgetown (Ky.) Great Crossing center Malachi Moreno, the consensus No. 1 2025 prospect in the state of Kentucky, announced Monday night that he had been offered by the Cardinals. He holds over two dozen offers, with Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama, Creighton and others also having extended offers.

Moreno’s offer comes on the heels of an in-house that night. Kelsey’s staff also paid a visit to the family of fellow ’25 prospect guard Jasper Johnson, the former No. 1 player in the Commonwealth before he transferred from Versailles (Ky.) Woodford County to Branson (Mo.) Link Academy.

The 6-foot-11, 210-pound big man is regarded as the top player in the state of Kentucky by the four major recruiting services, and ranks as high as the third-ranked center and No. 21 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle, according to On3. The 247Sports Composite has him as the No. 33 overall player.

As you can imagine, Moreno had an extremely impactful junior season. In 37 games tracked by MaxPreps, he averaged 16.0 points, 13.3 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 2.2 assists per game, while shooting 65.6 percent from the field. He helped guide Great Crossing to a 36-2 overall record, which included a berth in the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen.

Moreno is the third 2025 prospect to receive an offer from Louisville under the new staff, with Murray (Ut.) Utah Prep guard J.J. Mandaquit and San Bernardino (Calif.) Eleanor Roosevelt guard Brayden Burries both being offered last week. Jasper Johnson received an offer from the previous staff and has yet to be re-offered, but it’s assumed that is coming soon.
