James Maddison ‘top of the list’ for Newcastle as Leicester City approach January transfer battle

All the latest Leicester City news, including an update on James Maddison’s future.

Newcastle United are still interested in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, with the England international at the “top of their list” ahead of the January transfer window.

Maddison, 26, was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park over the summer but opted to stay in the East Midlands, where he has gone on to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad after scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 13 appearances.

His form has not only helped propel The Foxes away from the relegation zone with Brendan Rodgers’ men currently sat in 13th but has once again attracted the interest of a number of rivals within the league as we approach the January transfer window.

According to the Northern Echo, Maddison is still the number one target for Newcastle going into the New Year, with the midfielder at the “top of their list” despite shifting their priorities onto signing younger players with a greater upside.

The report goes on to state that The Magpies will have Financial Fair Play regulations to work around but this will not deter them from targeting “established” players such as Maddison.
