‘We’ll see,’ says manager, adding that the £80 million player has now made a’mistake,’ and that Liverpool is ‘well aware’ of the situation.

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi says Liverpool target Moisés Caicedo’made a mistake’ this week. The midfielder is highly sought after.

This week, Moisés Caicedo took an unusual step by publicly requesting a transfer from Brighton. The midfielder is being pursued by a number of clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

And it’s clear that he wants to move on.

“I always play football with a smile and heart,” Caicedo wrote on Instagram. “I’m proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

“I am the youngest of ten siblings from a low-income family in Santa Domingo, Ecuador. My ambition has always been to be Ecuador’s most decorated player.

“The fans have taken me into their hearts, and they will always be in mine, so I hope they can understand why I want to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.”

Arsenal appears to have responded with bids. According to the Daily Mail, they’re putting in a second bid of around £70 million, but Brighton wants £80 million.

Caicedo, according to Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, made a mistake. He hopes the player stays despite the attention – and despite his desire to leave.

“We hope he sticks around until the end of the season,” he told the BBC. “In life, mistakes can be made.

“There are numerous solutions for everyone. We’ll figure out what’s best for him and for us.”

Moisés Caicedo plays for Liverpool.
It appears unlikely that Liverpool will pay £80 million for Caicedo before the end of the transfer window. They can only buy him from Brighton in the summer, which means the Seagulls will stand firm and refuse a winter sale.

That does appear to be the case unless someone makes a massive offer in the coming days. And, in the end, Caicedo is almost certainly not worth £80 million. When it comes down to it, he’s barely played at the top level, having only joined Brighton’s team less than a year ago.

Perhaps things will calm down in the summer when other midfielders become available. Right now, however, Liverpool should avoid getting involved in a transfer battle.
