Manchester City will follow the likes of Liverpool ahead of the September international break

Manchester City will follow the likes of Liverpool ahead of the September international break in refusing certain players to play for their countries.

According to the Telegraph, Ederson Moraes and Gabriel Jesus will not travel to join up with the Brazilian national team for the September international break due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Liverpool have taken a similar move regarding the likes of Brazilian stars Alisson Becker and Fabinho. As well as Mohamed Salah for Egypt.

Players returning from ‘at risk’ countries will not be granted special permission to skip a ten-day quarantine when they return to the United Kingdom.

Meaning that Ederson and Jesus would miss at least three City games had they played for Brazil in the September international break.

This hasn’t stopped some nations from calling up Premier League players, though. Argentina have announced that two players from both Tottenham and Aston Villa will part of their squad for September.

More clubs in England as well as around Europe will likely follow suit ahead of the September international break given the ever-changing nature of pandemic.

Arsenal have already been hit by an outbreak of the virus. The likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Ben White have missed games after testing positive.

Some World Cup qualifiers have been pushed forward due to cancellations. And FIFA face a logistical problem trying to play all the games before Qatar 2022 next winter.
