Liverpool have been incredibly busy in the transfer market this summer. The Reds have been shifting mountains of deadwood and fringe players. This week has seen yet another departure. Liverpool have allowed Ben Woodburn to join Hearts on loan despite Pep Lijnders pleading for him to stay.
This summer has seen Michael Edwards move on a number of players. Marko Grujic’s time at the club came to an end with the Serbian joining Porto after impressing there on loan last season.
Academy graduate Harry Wilson also left with the Welshman signing for Fulham in the Championship.
Meanwhile Taiwo Awoniyi was sold having never made a senior appearance for the club, he joined Union Berlin.
Liam Millar has signed for Basel and most recently Xherdan Shaqiri has joined Lyon. In terms of loan moves Ben Davies has headed to Sheffield United, Sepp van den Berg has headed back to Preston and Leighton Clarkson has joined Blackburn Rovers.
This summer has seen Ben Woodburn leave the club on loan.
The 21-year-old is a Liverpool record breaker; he became the club’s youngest ever scorer in 2016 when he scored against Leeds United in the League Cup.
Since his moment of glory his progress has stalled due to ill fated loan moves and injuries.
Ben Woodburn has now joined Hearts on a season long loan despite being in the final year of his contract.
The move isn’t just a surprise due to his contract situation but also because, according to The Athletic, Pep Lijnders has pleaded for the Welshman to stay having been impressed with him in training.
Liverpool fans will be sad to see Woodburn go.
When he scored that goal against Leeds United hopes for him were so high.
We all thought we had the next best thing but it just didn’t work out.
He showed in pre-season that the potential is there, he just needs regular game time uninterrupted by injuries. We’ll be watching his progress in Scotland closely.
