Chelsea have identified Kounde as an ideal candidate to strengthen their defence and have been hoping to sign him before the transfer window slams shut.
The European champions even had an agreement in place with Sevilla over the transfer of the France international.

The Spanish outfit are claimed to be demanding Kounde’s full €80m release clause before agreeing to the defender go and do not plan to change their stance.
Sevilla, who are adamant on their asking price, consider Kounde’s move to Chelsea to be off and have no need to sell him.
