Liverpool showed their prowess against Leeds United in a comfortable 3-0 win at Elland Road, but the match was overshadowed with a horrific injury to Reds youngster Harvey Elliott.

It was an extremely unfortunate moment for the youngster who was in fact seconds away from being substituted by captain Jordan Henderson.

Pascal Struijk was the man to receive the red card and appeared surprised by the outcome. However manager Jurgen Klopp and Salah were absolutely furious and led the protest to get the Leeds man sent off.

The injury was in fact so horrific, broadcasters Sky Sports did not show replays of the incident.

It was a horrendous moment for the youngster who played so well in the match and was starting his third consecutive game, now however he looks certain to face a prolonged spell on the side lines.

The match itself however was nothing short of a perfect performance from Liverpool.

Leeds did start well and forced an early save from Alisson following a shot from Rodrigo, but that is as good as it got.

Liverpool controlled the game and killed off the atmosphere and began to show their class.

It eventually showed in the 20th minute when Joel Matip strode from defence and played the ball right to Trent Alexander-Arnold who produced yet another assist for Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian had the simple task of putting the ball in an empty net and duly obliged.

It’s now 100 Premier League goals for the forward and has become the fifth quickest player in history to achieve the feat.

The Reds should have made the game far more comfortable at half-time but were unable to convert the following chances.

As the game restarted, they were not made to pay for those missed opportunities and doubled their lead a few minutes after the break with a scrappy set piece goal from Fabinho.

Chances continued to arrive for Liverpool and Mane specifically who registered 10 shots in that much, more than Leeds, and it took until the last few minutes of injury time for him to secure his goal.

Jordan Henderson switched the ball from right to left, Thiago controlled and squared it to Mane who turned and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.

In total Liverpool registered 30 shots, the most in a match since December 2018, but ultimately the game will be remembered for the horrific injury to Elliott.
