Harvey Elliott was injured during Liverpool’s clash with Leeds United on Sunday afternoon

.Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott appeared to pick up a serious injury during Sunday afternoon’s victory over Leeds United at Elland Road. The former Blackburn Rovers loanee was felled by a robust challenge from Pascal Struijk, who was promptly shown a red card for his actions.

It was apparent from the moment Elliott went down that his problem would be serious, with a number of his Liverpool team-mates and Jurgen Klopp immediately recoiling in shock.

He was quickly attended to by Reds physios before referee Craig Pawson had even blown his whistle to halt proceedings.

Elliott lay on the turf in agony for several minutes before he was eventually stretchered off and replaced by Jordan Henderson.

The Egyptian winger’s first-half strike marked his 100th goal in the Premier League before Fabinho doubled his side’s lead five minutes after the interval.

Liverpool went on to win the game by three goals to nil, with Sadio Mane adding another in stoppage time.

Elliott broke into Liverpool’s first team picture during pre-season and did enough to keep his place ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign.

He was introduced as a late substitute during the opening-day win over Norwich and played the entire 90 minutes against Burnley and Chelsea before Sunday’s trip to Leeds.
