Key reason Man City will beat PSG in Champions League

BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves has identified PSG’s front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as the reason the French club will fail to win when they host City

BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves has identified the key reason Manchester City will come away victorious when they face off against Lionel Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Man City were involved in a high-scoring Champions League thriller as last season’s beaten finalists eventually overcame 10-man RB Leipzig at the Etihad on Wednesday night – as the visitors had former City man Angelino sent off.

Christopher Nkunku hit a hat-trick for the visitors but City were always on top and ran out 6-3 winners.

Nathan Ake had put the hosts ahead before Nordi Mukiele’s own goal doubled the lead.

Riyad Mahrez’s penalty restored a two-goal lead after Nkunku’s first of the night and he would strike again before Jack Grealish then finished well.

Nkunku completed his hat-trick to once again get the visitors within one goal before Pep Guardiola’s men finally accelerated clear through Joao Cancelo and Gabriel Jesus. Paris St Germain started with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in attack but had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at Club Brugge.

Mbappe provided the assist for Ander Herrera to score his maiden Champions League goal for the away side, who saw Hans Vanaken level.

And following the evening’s entertainment, BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves said he thinks PSG will be in ‘big trouble’ against City, and that there ‘will be plenty of goals in it’ when the sides meet in two weeks’ time.

He also identified PSG’s incredible attacking front three as the reason the French club will fail to win when they host City.

Hargreaves said: “I think City will be too good for them, their front three won’t track back and I think against City they’ll be in big trouble.

“I think there will be plenty of goals in it, maybe not as many as tonight.”

The teams will meet at the Le Parc des Princes in their second Champions League group stage tie on Tuesday September 28.
