Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Thiago Alcantara has ‘no chance’ of playing for Liverpool against Brentford in the Premier League tomorrow.
The Spain international has been struggling with a calf injury as of late.
So far this season, Thiago has only started two games for Liverpool in all competitions in what could be yet another stop-start campaign for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich maestro.
This time it’s a calf issue that’s preventing Thiago from making the squad that visits the newly-promoted Londoners tomorrow.
And Klopp confirmed to Sky Sports News that a certain Naby Keita is also missing the trip due to an injury he picked up in the EFL Cup win over Norwich City in midweek. He said: “Naby probably not. It’s not a serious thing but we have to wait until the pain settles, pretty much. We will see about that. Thiago, no chance.”
Thiago, when fit, is a very classy operator and the more he’s fit, the more points Liverpool will win. It’s that simple.
The Anfield side spent £20 million in signing the midfielder during the summer of 2020 and although it looked a bargain at the time, due to his undeniable ability, Klopp doesn’t need another injury-prone star on the books, what with Keita already there.
The good news about Thiago is that it’s usually niggling, short-term injuries which keep him sidelined rather than long-term problems, but the former add up too and since arriving in England, he has started just the 25 matches in all competitions.
