When Man City were taken over in 2008, it not only led to an influx of finances to the first team, but also to the academy.
And since then, the youth set-up at the Manchester side has undergone some massive changes. And now, the City Academy is beginning to bear fruit.
Phil Foden has established himself as one of City’s best players in recent seasons. Whilst the likes of Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia are beginning to make their first steps into the first team this campaign.
Indeed, City dominated youth football in England last season, with the Manchester side winning both Premier League 2 and the U-18 Premier League. And the Cityzens are no beginning to run riot at U-16 level. Footage from the club’s fixture this weekend has shown the development side score a quite stupendous goal from kick-off.
Each City player on the pitch got a touch of a ball in a brilliant 26-pass move which resulted in the Manchester side taking an early lead.
And as you would expect, Man City fans on social media were stunned by the academy goal. With Pep Guardiola one of the godfather’s of pass-and-move football, it was a stunning display of the Catalan manager’s philiopshy.
Here’s what some Man City supporters had to say on Twitter about the stunning academy goal…
That’s just ridiculous
