Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been speaking about Mohamed Salah and his contract situation.
Salah is in ridiculous form right now, there’s no doubt about it. He’s scored in nine consecutive games for Liverpool and he’s done it in some style.
Unfortunately for the Reds, Salah’s contract is up in 2023, and there’s a bit of a debate to be had around what Liverpool should do.
By the time 2023 rolls around, Salah will be 31, and in the past, you would say that some players are past their prime at that point. However, Wright believes Salah could still be doing what he’s doing until he’s 34 years old, which would be five years from now.
WHAT’S BEEN SAID?
Wright gave his view on Salah and his contract.
“I answered a question on this yesterday and I said, ‘you can’t sign people on what they’ve done.’ But then, I thought to myself, you have to look at Salah and think, will Salah at 33 or 34 still be doing what he’s doing? And you think, there’s a good chance, he lives well, and the way they preserve themselves and you think the way Salah is playing, will he be doing it in three years’ time with the way he looks after himself? Probably,” Wright said.
PERFECT EXAMPLE
Ian Wright ought to know better than anybody that you can still be a quality player well into your 30s.
Wright holds the record for Premier League goals scored by a player over the age of 30 and there’s no reason why Salah can’t continue to be Liverpool’s main man for years to come.
The Egyptian is in ridiculous shape, he’s avoided serious injury throughout his career and he’s incredibly fit.
It wouldn’t surprise us one bit if Wright is right here and Salah is still amongst the Premier League’s best players in five years’ time.
