Andy Robertson is hopeful that Liverpool fans will give Adam Lallana a warm reception on his return to Anfield on Saturday.

The Brighton star may be set to come up against his former club on Merseyside tomorrow, a year after being released by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The England international was a big player during his six-year spell at the Reds, winning a Premier League and Champions League title.

But injuries scuppered his chance to have a far bigger role under Klopp and his contract was not extended in 2020.

If he plays tomorrow, it’ll be Lallana’s first time competing in front of Liverpool supporters since leaving, after the pandemic resulted in supporters not being allowed inside stadia across England.

And Robertson has lavished praise on his former teammate, admitting that this is someone whom he and his colleagues on Merseyside still love.

He told Liverpool’s website: “We know how good Adam Lallana is as a player and we know how good he can handle the ball. He’s one of their main men and a close friend of all of us.

“I hope he gets a good reception at Anfield but hopefully we’ve done our job first and hopefully we’ve won the game when he does get that good reception because he certainly enjoyed his win at Anfield last season, and rightly so.”

DANGEROUS

Even at 33, Lallana remains a dangerous player for the Seagulls.

Don’t be fooledby his stats because two goal involvements from 30 Premier League outings last season could suggest that he’s past his best.

And although yes, the former Liverpool midfielder is clearly not the player he was, he is still such a danger.

This is still a player who can make things happen and he’ll be desperate to win on his return to the club.

That extra motivation should be a warning sign for Liverpool and if Klopp’s troops allow him to hurt them, he won’t need a second invite.
