Ousmane Dembele’s future at Barcelona continues to be clouded with uncertainty. The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract, and talks have been ongoing over a new deal without reaching a resolution.

New manager Xavi Hernandez revealed during his presentation that extending the 24-year-old’s stay at Camp Nou was a top priority for the club. And, as things stand, there is a sense of confidence within Barca that an agreement can be reached.

At the same time, though, some concerns linger owing to the club’s financial situation, which will not allow them to meet the offers from cash-rich Premier League clubs.

Newcastle United were said to have made a bumper contract offer for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. However, a move to St. James’ Park is pretty much off the cards given as the Magpies are mired in the relegation battle.

But, they are not the only club from England keen on signing Dembele, with Liverpool also interested, as per El Nacional. The report claims that Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the former Borussia Dortmund star and had tried to sign him a couple of years ago but failed.

However, given his contract situation, the Merseyside giants are trying to capitalise and make a swoop for him next year. Dembele will be able to speak to clubs from abroad over a pre-contract agreement, and Liverpool want to take advantage of the situation.

As per the report, the Reds are willing to pay the ex-Rennes starlet a contract with bigger wages than he currently earns. In addition to that, they are also ready to throw in a €20million signing-on bonus.

Barcelona, for their part, are intent on holding on to Dembele and are prepared to offer him a new contract wherein his earnings would be related to the number of appearances he makes. It will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old accepts the offer from the Catalans or move on to new pastures.
