Mount, Havertz, Lukaku – Chelsea injury news latest ahead of Leicester City clash

The Blues visit the King Power Stadium in the first game back after the international break

Leicester City are set to face a Chelsea side nursing a number of knocks after the international break as they look to return to winning ways.

After some positive results following the last international fortnight, City are winless in their last three games in all competitions.

A home defeat against Arsenal was followed with 1-1 draws against Spartak Moscow and Leeds United.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will be looking to replicate the form they found after the last two-week break when they came back with a 4-2 win vs Manchester United.

The challenge facing them is top-of-the-table Chelsea, who visit the King Power Stadium in Saturday’s early kick off, in a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final.

Ahead of the game, Thomas Tuchel has a number of injury concerns.

With that in mind, here is the latest from the opposition’s treatment room ahead of next weekend’s encounter.

Romelu Lukaku

Injury: Ankle

What Tuchel has said: “We have the international break now and then we will be more clear. We will see what is going on during the second week,” said Tuchel.

Any other info: The Chelsea striker has been giving updates of his recovery on social media .

In his latest update he wrote: “Being on the sideline these last weeks… I realise how much fun it is to just train and compete against other teams! Soon though.”

Timo Werner

Injury: Thigh

What Tuchel said: “I’m not a friend of deadlines and putting pressure on expectations, but I can tell you that it’s realistic that [Werner is targeting] after the international break.” he said.

That, therefore, means he could be available for the clash against City.

Mateo Kovacic

Injury: Thigh

What Tuchel has said: “We had some very sad news yesterday because he injured himself in the very last minute of training. It’s a hamstring injury and he will be out for some weeks,” Tuchel said at the end of last month.

Marcos Alonso

Injury: Ankle

What Tuchel has said: “Unfortunately, Marcos injured himself in the very last minute during the Malmo match. It’s nothing big but too painful at the moment.”

Mason Mount

Injury: Wisdom tooth

What has been said: Mount has been withdrawn from the England squad for their final World Cup qualifier in San Marino on Monday night as he continues to recover from dental surgery.

Any other info: The Chelsea midfielder posted a video of the aftermath of his operation on social media on Tuesday afternoon as he started his recovery.

Kai Havertz

Injury: Thigh

What has been said: Havertz has returned to training on Saturday and could play against Armenia in Germany’s final World Cup qualifying game Sunday evening.

He sat out of training earlier in the week with a bruised thigh but is now back with Hansi Flick’s side.

“We also assume that Kai can play,” Flick told a press conference on Saturday. “He trained with the team for the first time today, he is fit and will play from the beginning.”
