Pep Guardiola sent Lionel Messi and Neymar warning as Man City are labelled ‘a war machine’

PSG’s lethal frontline hasn’t quite clicked into gear yet this season, but City will need to be wary on Wednesday

Footballing royalty will grace the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday as some of the world’s most exciting talents face off in Manchester City’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Since Pep Guardiola’s appointment as City boss in 2016, the Catalan tactician has assembled a world-class squad capable of beating the very best, though the clash with Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG will provide one of their toughest tests of the season so far.

While Pochettino boasts arguably the best squad in European football on paper, the Argentinian has struggled to get the best out of his side this season, with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar not quite proving to be the lethal strikeforce everyone expected them to be.

City is Ours editor Dom Farrell was joined by French football journalist Aymeric Le Gall on Facebook Live on Tuesday to delve deeper into the deciding factors ahead of City’s clash with PSG.

Farrell kickstarted the discussion by probing as to how Mbappe and Neymar are gelling with summer signing Messi following a rocky start to life in Paris for the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

ALG: “Better and better, I’d say. At the beginning, it was complicated because the relationship between Messi and Neymar, they know each other, but with Mbappe is was complicated. They don’t give each other many passes.

“Over the last week, two weeks, it’s got better and normally with three styles like themselves I’m not sure it’s going to be a problem [against Manchester City].”

However, while Le Gall declared his confidence in PSG’s three-pronged attack ahead of the tie, he was keen to laud the incredible work done by Guardiola at City, describing the reigning Premier League champions as a ‘war machine’.

ALG: “Manchester City is a war machine. Pep Guardiola has been at the club for a long time and we can see his style – the players play with each other.

“It’s quite simple football with this team, it’s beautiful to see and it’s the real opposite of PSG right now.”
