Liverpool have identified an alternative target at Barcelona as they look to strengthen their midfield, according to reports in Spain.
The Reds had been linked with a move for 2021 Golden Boy-winner Pedri, but they are reluctant to meet Barca’s nine-figure asking price for the 19-year-old.
The Spaniard’s teammate, Gavi, could prove to be a more-affordable target as he is believed to have a €50million (£43m) release clause included in his contract.
El Nacional, per Fichajes, claims Liverpool are prepared to pay this sum and they hope Barcelona’s dire financial situation could force them to sell the 17-year-old.
However, the Blaugrana still hope Gavi will extend his current contract, which is due to expire in 2023.
Karim Adeyemi insists his immediate future lies with Red Bull Salzburg despite his links with clubs across Europe.
The striker, 19, has been in sensational form this season with 18 goals in 28 games in all competitions, with many fans viewing him as the next hot prospect to emerge from the Red Bull stable of clubs.
However, he has played down speculation he could leave the Austrian champions, saying: “As is so often the case, nothing is decided yet and, as I have said, I’ll also be at Salzburg next year, and that’s where my focus is on.”
Adeyemi added: “As I have said, I have no tendency [to leave]. My mind is here at Salzburg and I’m looking forward to the Champions League with Salzburg. We want to give our all there.”
