Liverpool ‘really love’ Aranut Danjuma and could push for a transfer, according to reports. There’s a catch here, however.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano. He claims that Liverpool have eyes on a transfer for Arnaut Danjuma, with the Reds seeing him as an ideal winger. There’s a catch with their plans, though.

“A player they really love is Danjuma, the winger of Villarreal,” Romano told his Here We Go podcast.

“He’s very good, but he’s not leaving in January. I’m told it’s impossible, that the player is going to stay until the end of the season.”

And that is a catch. Danjuma won’t be a January arrival, meaning he couldn’t cover Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah while they’re at the Africa Cup of Nations. Both forwards will depart after the Chelsea game on Sunday and may not return until February.

So if Danjuma is the transfer Liverpool want, they’ll need to trust their current backup options over the next month.

Liverpool consider Arnaut Danjuma transfer

If Liverpool want Danjuma as a winger, they won’t be signing anyone in January. It doesn’t make sense to sign someone both this winter and in the summer – unless a current star leaves, of course.

And this one is a little infuriating, to be fair. Marca linked Liverpool with Danjuma in the summer, saying they wanted him for around £21m. He eventually left Bournemouth to join Villarreal for that price.

Liverpool would pay a big premium to sign Danjuma a year later, then. There’s little to no chance that Villarreal would entertain a price as low as £21m now – not after some fine performances this season.

But if he’s the player Liverpool want, we’d back the signing. Whether we’d back waiting and not signing anyone in January, we’re not so sure. The Reds are running out of time, though.
