Manchester City will reportedly not replace Ferran Torres in the January transfer window with a striker following the attacker’s £50m move to FC Barcelona this week.

According to ESPN, the Premier League leaders have taken the surprising decision to not pursue a replacement for the 21-year-old Spaniard in the New Year.

However, City do plan on using the money generated from the sale to boost efforts in signing a striker in the summer.

Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are the two players City are keeping tabs on, with the duo likely to be on the move at the end of this season.

Indeed, both strikers have been linked with a move to the Manchester giants in the past six months, and the sale of Torres could give Pep Guardiola’s side the extra financial edge to sign either Kane or Haaland.

Whilst January could be the perfect time for City to sign a natural striker, it appears that the club will focus their efforts in the off-season.

RECORD THIS SEASON SHOWS CITY ARE FLOURISHING WITHOUT A STRIKER

A number nine seemed to be what fans and pundits believed City needed the most heading into the 2021/22 season. However, as we reach the halfway stage, it’s pretty clear that Guardiola’s side are doing more than fine without a striker.

The Manchester side sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and whilst a natural forward would be helpful, City could easily retain the English title and win the UEFA Champions League without a striker.
