Chelsea are reportedly about to fail in their attempted move for AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez.

Calciomercato claims Chelsea, along with European rivals Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, have made offers in an attempt to sign the 24-year-old.

It is understood that the left-back will ignore interest to extend his stay at the San Siro, though.

The report explains that Hernanedz is close to finalising talks with his club Milan about a new deal, with negotiations ongoing since October.

Hernandez is definitely one of the most important players for Serie A giants Milan, scoring four goals and making five assists in only 22 appearances across all competitions this season.

The France international is a left-back with great pace and athleticism, so it’s no surprise to see some of Europe’s elite clubs linked with his signature. For Milan, it looks like they’re about to complete some great business by keeping him on their books.

Chelsea’s wing-back dilemma

Hernandez would’ve been a superb addition at Stamford Bridge at left wing-back, as the Blues currently need to cover for the loss of England international Ben Chilwell being out injured for the rest of the season.

Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri, who’s currently out on loan at Lyon, is linked with helping out in the second half of the season at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are reportedly trying to recall the 27-year-old from his loan, albeit they’ve had two offers rejected from Lyon so far to terminate the loan deal.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel really needs a new wide option through the door to compete with Marcos Alonso on the left flank. It’s going to be a real squad effort to continue competing for silverware across every competition from now until the end of the season.

Chilwell’s injury absence is really highlighting what an important player he is at the Bridge when he’s available.
