Liverpool are ready to end Federico Valverde’s Real Madrid nightmare as Carlo Ancelotti continues to freeze the Uruguayan out at the Santiago Bernabeu.
When Real Madrid signed Eduardo Camavinga for €40m (£34.4m) in the summer, it spelt the end of Manchester United and Liverpool’s chances of signing him as well as limited the game time that Valverde, Isco and co. would get this season.
Valverde, who earns just €81,000/week (£68k/week) at the Santiago Bernabeu, is out of favour with Ancellotti and, according to El Nacional, Jurgen Klopp “is completely obsessed” with the player.
Georginio Wijnaldum was not replaced in the summer when his contract came to an end and that was a mistake.
It was bad enough to let him leave without identifying and recruiting his replacement but it’s even worse when you consider how important he was to the Reds. It’s a little easier with retrospect but Jurgen Klopp, his coaching staff and FSG, who are so much closer to the situation, should be in a much better position to make these calls.
Valverde is frustrated and wants to be a key player in the side and yet, finds himself with fewer starts than he did under Zinedine Zidane.
According to El Nacional, the Reds are already preparing their bid for Valverde and are ready to go as high as €80million. While any sane Liverpool fan will realise that’s a hugely unlikely offer from Liverpool, it’s one the report says Real Madrid would have to ‘study carefully’.
Without a doubt. He’s exactly what Liverpool need to take them to the next level as he’s the perfect mix between nasty and smart.
I’m sure most fans will remember his sacrificial tackle on Alvaro Morata in the final of the Supercopa for which he received a red card. It was the most obvious professional foul I have ever seen and while Jurgen Klopp likely would never ask his players to do that, it won Real Madrid a trophy.
While Liverpool get a lot of hate from rival fans, Klopp and the players don’t actually do much to warrant it. They’re actually very likeable and I would love to see them become more streetwise and learn more of the dark arts to win games when they’re perhaps not playing that well.
Players like Valverde could help them on that path but is the 23-year-old the type of player that Liverpool should be spending €80m (£66.6m) on?
