Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (9:55pm, January 13, 2021) that he was disappointed by Liverpool attacker Takumi Minamino against Arsenal.

The Sky Sports pundit felt that Minamino, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, should have done better when he had an easy chance late on against Arsenal on Thursday evening.

Liverpool played out a goalless draw Premier League rivals Arsenal at Anfield in the first leg of Carabao Cup semi-final tie.

Minamino, who cost Liverpool £7.25 million (Sky Sports), could have scored late on when he found himself with an easy chance from yards out.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher was not impressed by the Japan international, and believes that he has failed to do much of note at Liverpool.

Carragher said about Minamino: “He has never really done an awful lot in a Liverpool shirt, and that probably sums it up.”

Minamino is essentially a squad player at Liverpool who played against Arsenal because Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 26-year-old has really struggled at Liverpool and has failed to really establish himself in the first team.

Minamino has made six substitute appearances in the Premier League and two starts in the Champions League for Liverpool so far this season.

The attacker, though, has scored four goals and provided one assist in four Carabao Cup games this season.
