Manchester City are reportedly close to selling 19-year-old academy talent Oscar Tarensi, with the left-back set to return to Spain to join FC Girona.

According to Mundo Deportivo via Sports Illustrated, City have reached a deal with their sister club to allow the defender to return to his home country. Tarensi was signed by Pep Guardiola just over three years ago.

A talent labelled as ‘highly-rated’ as per Sport, Tarensi has failed to play a single first-team minute for City despite his promising reputation and the club’s lack of options in the left-back position.

Despite this, the defender was fairly successful at youth level for City. Tarensi was part of the squad that won last season’s Premier League 2 title along with the likes of Cole Palmar, James McAtee and Liam Delap.

Bouncing between the U-23s and U-18s, though, it makes sense why City have decided to sell Tarensi this window, especially to Girona, who are part of the City Football Group umbrella.

City have sent multiple players to Girona, with five players in the past three years joining the Catalan club on loan, with the likes of Patrick Roberts, Douglas Luiz and Angelino all spending time in the east of Spain.

City’s academy has burst into life in recent years, with Phil Foden becoming one of the Premier League’s poster boys and the aforementioned Palmer and McAtee not far behind in becoming members of the senior team.

Yet for Tarensi, City are making the smart decision in allowing the defender to move on. With the left-back unlikely to make it in the first-team, the Manchester side are being wise in allowing the 19-year-old to leave for good to further his career away from England.
