Chelsea now interested in ‘complete’ £50m international, he could be on the move today

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a move for Atletico Madrid forward Yannick Carrasco.

This is according to Foot Mercato, who claim the Blues have discussed Carrasco as a possible recruit for the summer.

England eyeing up Yannick

The 28-year-old could be well be heading to the Premier League on deadline day, but not to Stamford Bridge.

Foot Mercato say that both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur would be willing to pay his £49.8m release clause.

Manchester United are also said to be interested, yet, like Chelsea, they will probably hold off until the next transfer window.

Either way, it seems the Belgian international might be heading for the exit door, not long after he walked through the entrance to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Tales of Carrasco

He re-signed for Atletico exactly two years ago today, following a brief stint in China with Dalian Yifang.

Carrasco initially re-joined the Spanish side on loan, before the deal was made permanent.

Despite originally parting ways with Diego Simeone, the former Monaco man is still a valued member of the team.

He has made 29 appearances this term, predominantly as a left wing-back, a position he’s grown into over time.

Simeone might not be his biggest fan right now, as Foot Mercato suggest, but the pair have generally enjoyed a good relationship.

“I’m very happy for Carrasco. He is a very complete player, with a bright future ahead of him,” said the manager back in 2016.

In fact, only 12 players in history have been selected more times by Simeone than Carrasco.

Yet, this partnership will come to an end if Newcastle or Tottenham decide to splash the cash once again this month.

Or if Chelsea go after the man who knows Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois extremely well due to their share compatriotism.

Perhaps this Belgian connection could persuade Carrasco to go blue one day.
