Report: Tuchel now wants to sign speedy £44m player at Chelsea who Thiago Silva rates really highly

Thomas Tuchel has reportedly asked the Chelsea chain of command to commandeer Eder Militao from Real Madrid.

According to AS, the Blues boss is keen to acquire the Brazilian international in the summer.

Why Militao?

Militao is a player who’s been on Roman Abramovich’s radar since he left Porto for Madrid in 2019 for £43.5m (Guardian).

AS suggest that the Stamford Bridge owner attempted to sign the defender before his move to the Nou Camp.

Now, Abramovich’s inquest might be revived thanks to his manager’s wishes.

Tuchel will be well aware of the strong possibility that at least one of his key centre-backs could be departing at the end of the season.

Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are all out of contract in June.

Although they avoided being snapped last month, there is nothing stopping potential suitors from securing their services as free agents, if Chelsea allow their deals to expire.

In this scenario, the Blues must find replacements to fill the sizeable holes possibly left in the squad.

Jules Kounde is still top of the list, whether or not Rudiger, Christensen or Azpilicueta leave South West London.

However, it appears Tuchel will not be content with just one extra body to provide cover.

His search has seemingly taken him to Spain, where Militao currently, and quite happily, resides.

Brazilia born with Blue connections

The 24-year-old is one of Madrid’s main men, having already made 30 appearances this term.

He has improved greatly since exchanging Portuguese sun for the equally warm rays of La Liga, a rise that’s made him a staple of the Brazilian national team as well.

Away on international duty, Militao often shares a dressing room with Chelsea’s own Thiago Silva.

“I believe that, from now, with Sergio Ramos leaving, (Militao) will be one of the pillars of Real Madrid,” said Silva last June.

“Militao trusts in his speed a lot. He is a very fast player and, at times, he stays a little high up because he knows that he will recover.”

Tuchel might want to use this relationship as a bargaining chip for Militao’s signature.

Yet, his deal with Los Blancos does not perish until 2025, meaning a transaction will not be easy.

But when have Chelsea ever been fans of doing things straightforward?!
