Liverpool set for £12m transfer windfall from Fulham

The Wales international completed a permanent move to Crave Cottage after years of heading out on loan from Anfield and has since settled into life at Fulham well as they seek to make an almost instant return to the Premier League.

It was a structured deal that allowed the transfer fee to be waived for 12 months, meaning that the payment of the £12m fee is due to be paid in the summer.

This is said to have been agreed between the two clubs to ensure that Fulham comply with financial fair play rules moving forwards.

Wilson has since thrived for the Whites this term, scoring an impressive eight goals and racking up 11 assists in 24 Sky Bet Championship starts.

The winger has a contract with Fulham until the summer of 2026.

The Verdict

This was a very clever and calculated deal from Fulham as it has allowed them to essentially not pay a penny for Wilson for the entire first year of him being with the club.

It meant that the club didn’t come under scrutiny for breaking financial fair play rules and in turn allowed them to bring in a player of Wilson’s stature.

He has since gone on to be a key signing for the club as many will have expected him to be and as a result of this he has helped his side to remain in and amongst the promotion places.

The goal between now and the end of the campaign will remain the same – get promoted as soon as possible and begin to make preparations for a return to the Premier League after just one season away.
