Report: Chelsea consider ‘fantastic’ 23-year-old from PL rivals to replace £24m Blues player

Chelsea are reportedly considering Brighton star Marc Cucurella as a potential transfer target.

According to Goal, the 23-year-old wing-back is now someone who’s on the Chelsea radar.

The report explains that Blues interest in the Premier League star depends on the future of Marcos Alonso, though.

Goal’s report mentions that Chelsea’s 31-year-old left wing-back Alonso is now in the final 18 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso, who cost £24million in 2016, is a player who’s extremely effective playing in wide roles.

For certain, it’s easy to see why Cucurella’s name has popped up as a potential replacement.

The Brighton speedster is enjoying a brilliant debut season so far in English football, with his manager Graham Potter picking him out as a “fantastic addition” so early into the campaign.

He’s an ex-Barcelona player that’s tailor-made to play in Brighton’s wing-back role because of his unbelievable stamina, energy and quality on the ball.

Incidentally, some Chelsea fans claimed last month they wanted to sign Cucurella after playing against Brighton.

Chelsea upgrade
Yes, Alonso is a quality performer on his day who’s proved his doubters wrong on countless occasions over the years. But, this summer may be a good time to make a change.

Cucurella’s a very exciting prospect who can fly up and down the wings with far more regularity.

Injured Chelsea star Ben Chilwell is to many the first-choice option at left-back/left wing-back when fit, but Cucurella would be incredible competition for him.

Tuchel’s yet to really get his teeth stuck into this squad with many signings of his own, so the club need to back him in the next window.
