Barcelona could be offered the chance to sign left-back target as part of a swap deal

It is no secret that Barcelona were after the signing of AFC Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico in the January transfer window.

The Catalans were in the market for a new left-back in the January transfer window and had narrowed in on Tagliafico as a prime target. Despite there being a willingness on the Argentine’s part over a move, Ajax ended up blocking the transfer.

However, Barça might end up getting their man in the summer transfer window if a report from Fichajes is to be believed. According to it, Ajax are interested in re-signing Sergino Dest from Barcelona in the summer and would be open to an exchange involving the USMNT star and Tagliafico.

The Catalan giants signed Dest from Ajax back in the summer of 2020 in a deal worth €21 million. However, the right-back has proven to be a misfit in the side, failing to adapt to the ways of new manager Xavi Hernandez.

Dest is widely expected to leave Camp Nou at the end of the season. And, it seems like a return to Ajax could be on the cards, with the Dutch champions looking to replace Noussair Mazraoui, who will be a free agent in the summer. Interestingly, he has been linked with a Bosman move to Barcelona.

Ajax are hoping to use the Blaugrana’s interest in Tagliafico to engineer a direct swap deal for the two full-backs. However, a move might be tricky as Barça have made Jose Gaya their primary target in the left-back slot and will direct their efforts to sign him from Valencia.

So, Tagliafico would only enter the picture if they fail in their pursuit of the Spanish international. Even then, Barcelona are likely to demand some money in addition to the left-back from Ajax, considering that Dest is much younger than the Argentine and is courting interest from several clubs.
