Liverpool arguably have the best-attacking depth in the world, after signing Luis Diaz in the January transfer window to add to their already stacked options in that department.
While Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are arguably the only two attackers to be certain starters at the club, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Diaz would likely get into the majority of Premier League starting XI’s with the quality they possess.
Meanwhile, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino may be up-for-sale, but until their departures they still provide valuable contributions from time to time when called upon – but it seems Liverpool are still looking for more.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Julian Ward may already be looking at a big potential signing when he takes over from Michael Edwards as Sporting Director at the end of the season, with Real Madrid star Marco Asensio being targeted.
The Spanish attacker, who can also play in a deeper role, has just over a year left on his contract and despite reports suggesting he wants to commit his future to the La Liga giants, the two parties remain some distance apart in wage demand negotiations.
Arsenal are also believed to be in the running for the former Mallorca man, but neither club are currently expected to be willing to pay Real Madrid’s €50m (£41.8m) price tag in the summer, when they could approach him on a free transfer the following year.
Carlo Ancelotti has already deployed the 25-time Spain international as a central midfielder this season, and while the position isn’t too unfamiliar to him, Liverpool’s style of play and requirements in the wider central midfield spots would suit Asensio far more.

But if Liverpool could complete the signing as a free transfer, the deal holds little-to-no risk and would be an excellent piece of business.
