Manchester City has allegedly joined West Ham in the race to sign Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.

Record (reported via Sport Witness) claims that Manchester City is very keen on signing the £67 million-rated center-forward.

And what’s more Record (via Sport Witness) claims that the 22-year-old Benfica striker is dreaming of playing for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola at The Etihad.

That is obviously really bad news for West Ham.

If Man City does indeed come in for Nunez in the summer, there is absolutely no way the Hammers will stand any chance whatsoever of signing the prolific Uruguay International.

Manchester City faces a hugely important summer transfer window ahead of them. Guardiola has absolutely everything needed to challenge on all fronts next season apart from one thing – a proven center-forward.

West Ham boss David Moyes is in exactly the same boat at the London Stadium. And both Premier League teams could really do with someone like Nunez amongst their ranks.

With Record claiming that City wants to sign Nunez and the fact that 22-year-old Benfica striker is dreaming of a move to the Etihad, it seems as though the Hammers could be fighting a losing battle.

There are plenty of strikers out there and available this summer but the Benfica hitman is clearly someone who Moyes would love to sign.

The Evening Standard claimed yesterday that Moyes’s number one priority is to sign Nunez in the summer. However, the Scot may well have to look elsewhere now with City chasing the Uruguayan as well.

And that will be a huge shame for West Ham. Darwin Nunez would have been the absolutely perfect summer signing for us.

Nunez’s playing style is quintessentially South American. He is a tenacious presser, plays with real physicality, and has real technical ability. The 22-year-old seems to be ideally suited for the Premier League with its intense and robust nature.

Nunez has bagged 26 goals in 33 games for Benfica this season (Transfermarkt).

He’s fast, great in the air, and has absolutely everything that West Ham needs in a striker.

Benfica wants around £67 million for Nunez according to A Bola. That sounds like an awful lot of cash but Manchester City won’t think twice about paying it.

This has all the makings of one that West Ham should just forget about and move on from. We cannot afford to waste our time trying to sign someone who is unattainable this summer.

And Manchester City moving for Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window will undoubtedly signal the end of our hopes of signing the Uruguayan.
