EXCLUSIVE: Spanish ace Rodri is up next for a new deal and pay rise with English champions Manchester City. It follows his fine form as the anchor for Pep Guardiola’s midfield
Manchester City plans to reward Spanish star Rodri with a bumper new deal this summer.
The City midfield general still has more than two years left on his existing contract but the club are keen to tie him down and extend his stay further. They propose to open negotiations with the player at the end of the season over an improved deal that would keep him at the Etihad through till June 2026.
Rodri, 25, can expect to pick up close to £125,000-a-week going forward – a considerable hike on his current £70,000 weekly wage. The former Atletico Madrid ace, who cost City £62.8million back in July 2019, has fully justified that huge outlay with consistently good performances since his arrival.
Rodri, with 30 caps for Spain, played an integral part in Pep Guardiola’s men reclaiming the Premier League title last term.
In that 2020-21 campaign, he made a total of 55 appearances in all competitions as City were crowned English champions, won the Carabao Cup, and reached the Champions League final.
Now he will become next in line from Guardiola’s Treble-chasing squad to receive the offer of a lucrative contract extension.
The England winger, 27, will have only a year left in June and that is set to force the club to reluctantly listen to any offers of £80m rather than lose him for nothing the following summer.
