Jurgen Klopp is expected to win the substitute war, and pre-season preparations have been revealed.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has long advocated having five substitutes in the Premier League and appears to have finally gotten his own, while the Reds are scheduled to play a rival side during a pre-season tour of Thailand.

Jurgen Klopp has seemingly won his argument to have five substitutions in the Premier League.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, football clubs have been unable to go on European or global tours during pre-season. But with things slowly returning to a sense of normality, many teams are planning to travel prior to the 2022/23 campaign. And Liverpool is reportedly gearing up to face Manchester United in Thailand midway through July.

Meanwhile, transfer target Kalvin Phillips has told Leeds United he is open to staying at the club and agreeing on terms of a new contract.

Klopp’s substitution increase incoming

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has long argued that the Premier League needs to have five substitutions.

The practice was in place when football was played behind closed doors during the lockdown in 2020. But after Project Restart and before the 2020/21 campaign, the rule was scrapped and three subs were once again the norm. Klopp has since believed that more changes during the game should be allowed due to the congested fixture schedule but the proposal has been rejected by clubs whenever the idea was voted on.

However, it now seems that the Premier League will perform a U-turn with the change coming into effect next season.

Pre-season opponent scheduled

Football has been unable to tour the world for pre-seasons due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But with the world opening up again, clubs are looking to once again travel the world before the season starts and explore markets they have been forced to abandon. And it seems that Liverpool will jet off to Thailand in July where they will meet Premier League rivals Manchester United in the Bangkok Century Cup.

Liverpool had begun talks to travel to the Far East earlier this year.
