Liverpool receives an ideal scouting tour when Jürgen Klopp allows a deeper look at three transfer prospects.

Villarreal did it again. Not content with eliminating one member of European royalty, having dumped Juventus out in the round of 16, they went one better in the last eight. This time, they knocked out Bayern Munich, winning 2-1 on aggregate to reach just the second Champions League semi-final in the club’s history.

It’s worth bearing in mind that Villarreal, a small coastal settlement near Valencia on the eastern side of Spain, has a population that would fit inside Anfield — with some spare seats left over.

It’s a remarkable achievement from Unai Emery’s side. They consistently punch well above their weight — not just competing with the big boys, but beating them. It’s also worth keeping in mind that they beat Manchester United in the Europa League final last season.

A name that is likely no surprise to Liverpool fans, Danjuma has been linked with a transfer to Anfield over the last year. The pacey forward has thrived since moving to the Spanish side from Bournemouth last summer.

Blessed with devastating pace and good finishing, Danjuma has 14 goals in 31 games for Villarreal this season, with six of them coming in the Champions League.

The Dutch international will no doubt be looking to earn a move to a bigger club at the end of the season, and should he produce two solid performances against Liverpool, then he could force the Reds to step up their interest in the 25-year-old and get in before other interested parties.

Much will depend on the future of Liverpool’s existing attackers, but Danjuma could be an option should several of them leave — even if FSG will regret not making a move last summer.

Yéremy Pino

Another who has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool in recent times, the young winger has caught the eye with some impressive performances for the Yellow Submarine this season.

Last season was his breakout campaign in La Liga. Pino received more and more minutes towards the back end of the campaign and has continued his growth this season. As of writing, Pino has scored six goals and provided four assists in La Liga this season, but he didn’t get off the bench in either of the games against Bayern in the Champions League.

Capable of playing on either wing, Pino would give Jürgen Klopp versatility in his 4-3-3 system, but perhaps it is too soon for the Spaniard to move to Anfield. However, he could be one for the future, and he may end up getting a chance to prove it against Liverpool.

The central defender is quietly earning a reputation for himself as one of the best defenders on the continent. Torres successfully kept Robert Lewandowski quiet in both legs of the quarter-final, as well as managed to keep Juve’s Dušan Vlahović from scoring in the round of the 16-second leg.

Torres could have moved to Tottenham last summer but preferred to stay and play in the Champions League with his hometown club. That decision now looks like a shrewd move from the 25-year-old.
