Mohamed Salah believes that his work with the ball has improved even further for Liverpool this season.
Salah was conducting an interview for Liverpool’s official matchday program as quoted by liverpoolfc.com.
Asked if he has seen improvement in his game this year, Salah cited the number of assists he is providing as evidence that he is bettering his game.
“I saw my game improving, but the season before last I had 19 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League. In my first season, it was also 10 assists, so I’m always trying to score goals and give assists,” said the Egyptian.
“That is always my game and this season I feel a lot of improvement with the ball, but I go back to what I said before. The most important thing is to help this team win trophies and I am trying to help to do that.”
Mo has been one of Liverpool’s best players since he arrived at the club in 2017. This season has seen his all-around game go up another level, though.
He currently leads the way in terms of both Premier League goals and assists. Not bad for a one-season wonder!
Getting better and better
Salah set up Andy Robertson’s opener in the Merseyside Derby on Sunday. That was his 13th assist of the Premier League season, more than any other player.
That’s already his best tally in the league for Liverpool, although he did claim 14 in all competitions in his debut season.
Without an assist outside of the Premier League this season, Mo still needs one more to match his Liverpool record. Whether he manages to or not, he has still been creatively excellent for The Reds in 2021/22.
At times he is unfairly categorized as a ‘selfish’ player, but the numbers don’t lie. While Salah does occasionally go for a goal when a pass looked the better option, he still provides plenty for his teammates.
As far as ball control goes, Salah has always been a gifted technician. Again, he looks to have taken that to another level this season.
Just look at his back-to-back goals against Manchester City and Watford in October. The 29-year-old showcased some of the best ball control you’re ever likely to see whilst scoring two of the goals of the season.
It was so good that Jurgen Klopp called it ‘world-class’ via BBC Sport. There was a time when there was a debate over whether or not Mo was worthy of that description.
After his incredible exploits this season, there certainly isn’t anymore.
