Fabrizio Romano has claimed the priority in Liverpool’s transfer window this summer is to tie Mohamed Salah down to a new contract.

Writing for Caught Offside, the journalist said that Liverpool will not take a different approach to the market due to Manchester City’s signing of Erling Haaland.

“Liverpool will not make any deals that could break their salary structure,” wrote Romano. “The decision is very clear, there will be smart deals as has happened for Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate in recent months and this will not change due to the fact that Man City has signed Haaland.”

The transfer expert then claimed that Liverpool’s priority in the transfer window was to get Salah’s contract sorted. The Reds are also said to be looking for a new midfielder. Aurelien Tchouameni is the name that crops up yet again.

“The priority is to clarify the situation for Mo Salah’s contract, which is still on standby,” said Romano. “Certainly there is the intention to sign a new important midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni is one of the names on the Reds’ list but there is great competition from other top clubs. There have already been direct contact with his agent.”

Another quiet window for Liverpool?

Over recent years some fans have grown tired of Liverpool’s transfer windows. If you’re looking for deal after deal during the summer break then Anfield is certainly not the place to look.

After a disappointing year last time out, Liverpool’s only business was to sign Ibrahima Konate for RB Leipzig.

Some may have felt the need for an extra body up-front or another midfielder, but it wasn’t to be.

In the end, the season hasn’t turned out too badly for Liverpool. They still have an incredible core of players all in and around their peaks. There wasn’t a need for an overhaul last summer and that will remain true this time as well.

Important business getting done early

The Reds did of course complete some stunning transfer business in January anyway. Luis Diaz was supposed to be a summer signing but was brought forward as it became clear that Liverpool may miss out on him.

In that respect, Liverpool will already sign one less player than they would have done.

With Fabio Carvalho also reportedly just waiting for an official announcement, Liverpool is looking well stocked.

Calvin Ramsay is another who has been linked with a move. Jurgen Klopp has reportedly signed off on the transfer already as Liverpool focuses on youth.

As Romano says, there is the potential addition of another midfielder. Once that has been done, the focus should then switch to signing both Salah, Sadio Mane, and perhaps even Naby Keita up for the long-term.

One or two outgoings may also be expected, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reportedly concerned about his future.

A lot to get excited about but also a lot of crossing T’s and dotting I’s to be done, too.
