£21M SCOT WHO ARSENAL ARE REPORTEDLY SIGNING GIVEN 4/10 FOR DISPLAY LAST NIGHT

Arsenal signing Aaron Hickey is looking like a distinct possibility, it has to be said.

The Scottish left-back has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Gunners in recent months.

In fact, the movie is reportedly at an extremely advanced stage.

That’s because five days ago, Italian outlet Fanta Calcio wrote that a £21 million transfer to Arsenal was effectively a ‘done deal’.

On Wednesday, HITC Sport wrote about how Hickey moving to the Emirates Stadium could effectively end Nuno Tavares’s career in North London.

However, based on the 19-year-old’s performance for Scotland last night, this is, as predicted, still, a very raw talent Arsenal could be getting.

Steve Clarke’s side lost 3-1 at home to Ukraine at Hampden Park.

This was a World Cup playoff, not a meaningless friendly, and Hickey struggled on what was his full international debut.

In their post-match ratings, The Scotsman only gave the Bologna defender a 4/10, writing: “Some nice flashes going forward but was exposed defensively in what was a trying night for the Bologna youngster.”

Arsenal signing Aaron Hickey is likely to go ahead regardless of his performance last night – well, providing Mikel Arteta and Edu are genuinely interested in the Italy-based starlet, that is.

But Wednesday night was a massive reminder that for all his potential, there’s a lot for Hickey to learn, and maybe, just maybe, he’s still too raw to be Kieran Tierney’s understudy.

Given Tierney’s worrying injury record since joining Arsenal three years ago, a reliable backup option is essential, and with Hickey inexperienced, and Tavares relatively poor defensively, well there’s a lot to ponder for Arteta and Edu.
