According to reports, the £68 million star who Van Dijk praised has agreed to join Liverpool this summer.

If Liverpool made an offer for Matthijs de Ligt this summer, he would consider it.

According to calciomercato.it, The Reds are one of only four clubs for which the Dutchman would consider leaving Juventus.

De Ligt is currently negotiating a new contract with the Italian giants. He is reportedly unwilling to accept their offer of £6.4 million per year.

This would be a decrease from his current annual salary of £10 million, which he is said to be looking for again. If Liverpool is interested in signing the 22-year-old, this is said to be one of his demands on Merseyside.

If he cannot reach an agreement, Juventus is said to be looking for a replacement. Along with Liverpool, the Dutch international is said to be interested in PSG, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.

Manchester United is also said to be interested, though there have been no official approaches from either side.

Van Dijk gives the seal of approval

This isn’t the first mention of de Ligt in connection to Liverpool. However, it feels a little too much like a play from agents to get the best deal possible for the player at Juventus.

When he joined Juventus from Ajax in 2019, the center-back cost the club £68 million. Despite his lack of success in Turin, he is still only twenty-two years old. After losing Giorgio Chiellini, the Old Lady will undoubtedly do everything in their power to keep their star defender.

Having said that, we would not be opposed to a move to Anfield. He is Virgil Van Dijk’s natural successor for the Dutch national team and could play a similar role at Liverpool.

Van Dijk, it appears, would welcome the opportunity to team up with his countryman. Virgil described the then-18-year-old as “excellent” via 90min in 2018.

The two have played together on a regular basis for the past four years. A partnership with such mutual respect would be beneficial to Liverpool.

Nonetheless, Liverpool already has plenty of options for Van Dijk. The Reds already have one of the continent’s most promising center-backs in the burgeoning talents of Ibrahima Konate.

Given the fee to get him out of Turin, his wages, and the lack of necessity, this appears to be a non-starter.

Of course, he’d consider a Liverpool offer; what player wouldn’t? For the time being, Liverpool is unlikely to consider him.
