Arsenal has scheduled a medical for the £34 million star as Arteta pursues a key double deal.

Arsenal’s first major signing of the summer transfer window, Fabio Vieira, will have a medical on Friday.

Arsenal has agreed to pay Porto an initial fee of around £30 million for the midfielder, who arrived in London yesterday, but this figure could rise by another £4 million due to add-ons.

Vieira has agreed to personal terms on a long-term contract with Arsenal and will have a medical on Friday to complete the formalities of his move to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old arrives with a growing reputation from Portugal, where he led the league in assists last season. Last year, the midfielder won player of the tournament at the European Under-21 Championship, sparking speculation that he could join Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal, on the other hand, moved quickly to sign Vieira, who will cost less than his £42 million release clause. He can play as a No. 8, No. 10, or out wide, giving manager Mikel Arteta more options in attack.

A move for Vieira is not expected to alter Arsenal’s pursuit of Youri Tielemans, who is ready to leave Leicester this summer.

Arsenal has been tracking the Belgian since January and he is keen on a move to Emirates Stadium, despite originally expressing a desire to play in the Champions League.

Tielemans is more suited to a deeper role in midfield than Vieira and as such the prospect of Arsenal signing both remains possible.

Arsenal has already made one signing this summer, acquiring Brazilian teenage winger Marquinhos from Sao Paulo for around £3 million.

The club has also agreed to terms with USA goalkeeper Matt Turner, who will arrive in the country later this month.
