Chelsea target ‘wants to leave’ current club, while Arsenal is’very close’ to acquiring a Premier League attacker.

Chelsea’s reported interest in Sevilla defender Jules Kounde has been dashed, with the player scheduled to undergo surgery.

The 23-year-old defender started France’s Nations League game against Croatia but was taken off after 45 minutes.

His absence in the second half prompted questions from the press, who are aware that Chelsea has been negotiating a deal for the defender and that any injury could complicate the move.

Didier Deschamps, France’s manager, took the time to reveal that the defender had been carrying an injury for the majority of the season and had scheduled surgery to correct it.

“I knew very well his physical condition today,” he said.

“He will have an [surgical] intervention tomorrow because he has a problem that has been bothering him for several months.”

“In theory, if everything goes as planned, he should be ready for the start of the season.”

Chelsea has lost Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and released Andreas Christensen, who is reportedly close to joining Barcelona.
