Liverpool is in talks to sign a £69 million transfer target from Manchester United.

Liverpool is in talks with Ajax about signing winger Antony, who is also wanted by Manchester United.

Antony Matheus dos Santos, better known as Antony, had a productive 2021/22 season with Ajax.

As the Dutch giants won the Eredivisie, he scored 12 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.

This form has piqued the interest of a number of clubs across Europe, including Manchester United, with former Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag eager to reunite with the Brazilian.

Liverpool, meanwhile, is interested in the 22-year-old winger, despite having already signed Darwin Nez from Benfica for £85 million this summer.

Following his impressive performances under Ten Hag over the last two seasons, Ajax are reportedly demanding a fee of around £69 million for Antony.

Manchester United is currently unwilling to pay this price.

Liverpool has been in talks with both Ajax and Antony’s agent about a possible summer transfer, according to Brazilian outlet Yahoo Esportes.

According to the report, Liverpool’s interest is strong,’ and a bid of £59 million could be enough for Ajax to accept.

Earlier this month, United denied reports of a £51 million bid for Antony, calling the speculation “nonsense.”

The wide forward is expected to want to work under his former manager Ten Hag again.

However, with Ajax already having sold Sebastian Haller to Borussia Dortmund, Ryan Gravenberch to Bayern Munich, and Lisandro Martinez on the verge of being sold to Manchester United, they are under little pressure to sell any more assets.

This strong financial position that the Dutch have managed to establish for themselves makes any deal with the Merseysiders or the Red Devils in this market extremely difficult.

In this transfer window, Liverpool has already signed Nez, Calvin Ramsay, and Fabio Carvalho.

According to reliable sources, they have finished with their incoming business.

Jürgen Klopp and FSG would like to focus on letting players leave Anfield, with the futures of Nat Phillips, Rhys Williams, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all in doubt.
