Liverpool have increased their interest in the “uber-talented” £106k-per-week dynamo, who could replace Thiago.

Liverpool has already made three signings this summer, but due to a midfield injury crisis, the club may add one more player to their Anfield squad.

Liverpool is advancing their pursuit of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, according to 90min.

According to the report, following Thiago Alcantara’s injury, the Merseyside giants are considering their options, and Brozovic is one of the players the club is interested in.

Imagine him & Fabinho

It has been a hot topic this summer as to whether Liverpool needs to add a new midfielder to their team or not, whilst Jurgen Klopp has stayed adamant throughout that the squad does not need reinforcements in the center of the pitch, but that stance may be changing as a result of the series of unfortunate events unfolding in the team.

Curtis Jones is currently recovering from a calf injury that could keep him out for up to four weeks, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has a serious hamstring injury with no return date confirmed, Naby Keita has been out due to illness, and Thiago has suffered a hamstring injury.

The Spanish midfielder limped off the field in the first game of the season at Craven Cottage, with Liverpool reporter for The Athletic James Pearce confirming he will be out for six weeks, so the midfield is now significantly weakened, and the signing of Brozovic could be ideal for the team in the season ahead.

Without Thiago, Liverpool’s midfield threat loses a whole dimension. The 31-year-old provides sharp passes and an exceptional unrivaled passing range that helps the team achieve their suffocating high press that has led to their competitive dominance, but Klopp is taking a big risk by relying on a player who has already had numerous bouts of injury problems.

As a result, Brozovic, like Thiago, could be crucial in maintaining consistency in possession and distribution of the ball alongside Fabinho in the center of the pitch, with the Inter midfielder demonstrating last season his capabilities of complementing Klopp’s system.

Over 35 Serie A appearances, the £106k-per-week dynamo who was hailed as “uber-talented” by The Athletic’s Serie A reporter James Horncastle, had a pass completion rate of 93% which was just better than Thiago’s 89.1%.

Furthermore, the Croat completed 86.1 touches per game and lost possession only 7.9 times. He also averaged 68.1 accurate passes per game and completed the vast majority of his dribbles (76%).

Perhaps more importantly, the Croatia international has only missed nine games for the Reds in the last two years, compared to Thiago’s 44 for the same period.

The midfielder clearly has the attributes and talent to fit into the Liverpool system and re-establish a reliable midfield partnership with Fabinho this season, and with his injury record looking promising, the pair can really form a reliable bond that won’t fall short of the side this season and beyond.

That being said, the signing of Brozovic could be a significant addition for Klopp, allowing him to continue to comfortably deploy the effective style of play that has helped Liverpool thrive in every competition, while also providing Fabinho with a reliable midfield partner.
