‘It’s over’: Manchester City figure issues £85m transfer revelation after Barcelona draw

Despite strong interest from FC Barcelona this summer, Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has stated that Bernardo Silva will remain with the reigning Premier League champions.

Speaking to Tv3 via Fabrizio Romano, the City chief revealed that he and the club have completed their summer business, with the window set to close next week, as Soriano stated: “There are no discussions or talks for Bernardo Silva.” There isn’t a Bernardo case. Manchester City’s market can be considered closed; it is no longer active.”

The city has been in Catalonia this week for a charity match with Barcelona, who have been linked with a reported £85m move for Silva all summer, and while the player appears to be interested in moving to the La Liga giants, a move will not happen this window.

Silva has been one of City’s most important players in recent years, and his decision to extend his contract for another year will be crucial in the club’s quest to reclaim the Premier League title and, after years of trying, finally win the UEFA Champions League.

Indeed, City has recruited well this summer, with the arrivals of Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, and Kalvin Phillips, as well as recouping a record figure in terms of player sales, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and Oleksandr Zinchenko also leaving the Etihad Stadium.

Even with reports of an £85 million move from Barcelona, the Portuguese international is simply too valuable for City to lose this summer, and the midfielder staying is a massive result for Pep Guardiola’s side.

BERNARDO SILVA STAYING IN THE CITY IS BIGGER THAN ANY TRANSFER

Silva staying in Manchester for at least one more season is massive, to say the least. The 28-year-old is regarded by many as one of the best midfielders in world football, and City selling the playmaker to Barcelona, even for a huge sum like £85m, would have been a foolish decision.

After all, Silva has been instrumental in City’s last two Premier League title wins and selling the midfielder at the peak of his powers would have angered supporters and put Guardiola’s transfer decisions into serious doubt, especially with a leading man like Haaland now finally at the club.
